Generally, when a patient needs to get a crown, it will take them several dental visits. The first dental visit will entail having a mold made so that the tooth can be produced at a lab. Then there is in a waiting period of approximately one week. Afterwards, the patient returns to have the permanent crown fitted to their tooth. If there is a problem with the crown that cannot be easily fixed, the dentist will need to return the crown to the lab. You will then need to wait another week until the crown is fixed to fit your particular tooth. With CEREC crowns, our patients come in for their one dental visit to have their crown created and installed. Using CAD/CAM technology, our dentist will take pictures of your mouth where the crown needs to be placed. The actual crown is milled at our office by our milling machine. This machine will mill the crown out of a solid block of ceramics, according to the specifications provided by the CAD/CAM technology. The milling time is short, taking less than 30 minutes. Once the crown is completed, our dentist will be able to permanently install the crown on your tooth. You can then leave our office with your permanent crown in place.
